Lind (Two Goals) Helps Pomona-Pitzer Stretch Win Streak To Six

Orange, Calif. - Junior midfielder Drew Lind (San Juan Capistrano, Calif. - pictured) scored once in each half to lead the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team to a 2-0 win over Chapman on Wednesday afternoon.

The win stretches the Sagehens winning streak to six games and improves their record to 9-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the SCIAC, remaining alone in first place with five games left to play. Chapman slips to 5-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the conference with the loss.

Lind got the Sagehens on the board with a goal in the eighth minute off an assist from sophomore Nathan Shekita (San Jose, Calif.). With two goals, Lind doubled his season total. Pomona-Pitzer's defense held Chapman to just four shots in the first half and seven in the game, two of which were on goal.

The game remained at 1-0 until Lind scored his second goal of the match. This time he scored off a shot that bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net in the 73rd minute off an assist from sophomore Arash Mahboubi (La Canada, Calif.) which secured the win for Pomona-Pitzer.

Chapman (5-7-1, 4-5-1) senior Mauricio Alfonso had a team-high three shots with one shot on goal. Senior Rollie Thayer (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded his third shutout of the season for Pomona-Pitzer and had two saves while Chapman freshman Dean Meltz also recorded two saves.

Pomona-Pitzer has a week off after a busy stretch in which it went 3-0 in a span of five days, taking over first place with a road win over CMS on Saturday. The Sagehens will next be in action at home against Whittier, the last team to defeat them (back on Sept. 22), next Wednesday afternoon.
