No. 15 UT Dallas Pulls Away From Sagehens

Claremont, Calif. - Four different players scored goals as the 15th-ranked UT Dallas Men's Soccer team remained undefeated by knocking off Pomona-Pitzer 4-0 on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, the Comets improve to 7-0-1 on the year, winning both games on its California trip by 4-0 scores after beating UC Santa Cruz by the same margin on Friday. Pomona-Pitzer falls to 2-6 on the year after defeating Caltech 4-0 yesterday.

Benjamin Tijerina scored the first goal of the game at the 11:56 mark when he converted off a cross from Michael Darrow. The Sagehens nearly answered back moments later off a corner kick, as sophomore defender Graham Barlow (pictured) got to a loose ball in the box and cleanly beat UT Dallas goalkeeper Steven Nicknish, but his shot was cleared off the line by a defender.

The Comets then added a second goal with 8:56 left in the half when Michael Matthews scored off a long pass from Antonio Rodriguez, dribbling around onrushing goalie Carson Witte and slotting the ball into the vacated net.

Darrow and Lukas Teese added second-half goals for UT Dallas, which had a 25-10 edge in shots on the day. Witte finished with 10 saves in his first career start for the Sagehens, while Nicknish had two for UT Dallas.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Redlands for a SCIAC game, beginning at 7 p.m.
