Second Chance Gives Redlands 1-0 Win In Overtime

Redlands, Calif. – Evan Keny-Guyer scored on a rebound with 1:12 left in the first overtime as the Redlands Men's Soccer team defeated Pomona-Pitzer 1-0 on Wednesday evening.

With the win, Redlands improves to 4-1 on the season, all of which are SCIAC games, while Pomona-Pitzer falls to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in conference.

The game-winner was set up off a free kick outside the box. Matej Kustura took the free kick and Chales Izydorek headed it off the crossbar from inside the box. The rebound bounced straight down in front of the goal, and Keny-Guyer was able to tuck it into the net before Sagehen goalie Nigel Brady (pictured) could get there to smother it after diving for the initial shot.

Redlands controlled play for much of the game, holding a 21-6 edge in shots, but quality chances were relatively few as neither goalkeeper had to make a save out of the routine. Senior midfielder Michael Ceragioli thwarted the most dangerous Redlands chance when a low cross got past sophomore Brady and headed towards the far post, but Ceragioli was first to it and cleared it away.

Junior midfielder Nathan Shekita had the best chance for the Sagehens early in the second half when he used some quick moves inside a crowded penalty area to squeeze off a 12-yard shot, but Andreas Silva made the save at the near post, one of his four saves on the day (matching Brady's total).

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Occidental at 11 a.m. in another SCIAC match.
