Levin's Early Goal Holds Up In 1-0 Win Over Occidental

Claremont, Calif. - Senior forward Harris Levin (pictured) blasted in a 15-yard shot at the 11:02 mark of the first half and the Sagehens held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 win over Occidental on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 3-7 overall on the season and 2-4 in the SCIAC. Occidental falls to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in league play.

The game-winning goal was set up as a long ball was played down into the right corner for junior midfielder Nathan Shekita. Shekita turned the corner past a defender and sent a hard cross through the middle of the penalty area. Levin was waiting far post, settled the ball 15 yards out, and cracked a line drive into the left side of the net for his second goal of the year.

Pomona-Pitzer nearly stretched the lead to 2-0 10 minutes later as Shekita played senior midfielder Drew Lind into the box. Lind hit a low shot that appeared like it would tuck inside the far post, but instead it hit off the post and bounced out.

The Sagehens finished with a 21-8 edge in shots on the day, as junior goalie Nigel Brady needed to make only two saves to get the shutout. Brady did come off his line twice in the final minutes of regulation to corral dangerous crosses inside the Sagehen penalty area before Occidental attackers could get on the back end.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Chapman for a 4 p.m. contest.
