Redlands Spoils Season Finale For Sagehens

Claremont, Calif. – Freshman Voja Maric (pictured) gave Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead early in the second half, but Redlands responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 win over the Sagehens on Saturday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Stadium.

With the loss, the Sagehens close out the season at 8-11-1 overall and 7-8-1 in the SCIAC. Redlands ends its season at 12-4.

Maric scored his team-high sixth goal of the season after working a give-and-go with fellow freshman Matty Marvin 3:42 into the second stanza to stake the Sagehens to a 1-0 lead.

However, Redlands was awarded a penalty kick 11:37 into the second half, and Charles Izydorek converted to knot the score up 1-1. Just 2:10 later, Matej Kutsura scored on a one-touch goal in the box off a pass from Grahame Fitz to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.

The Sagehens put pressure on to look for the equalizer, but Kustura scored his second goal with 9:02 to push the lead to 3-1 and Redlands was able to hold on from there. Andreas Silva had six saves for Redlands, as Pomona-Pitzer held a 14-9 edge in shots. Junior Nigel Brady finished with three saves for the Sagehens.

Pomona-Pitzer honored its five seniors before the game before their final collegiate contest, Michael Ceragioli, Devin Gilliam, Harris Levin, Ian Maier and Ryan Miller.
