Claremont, Calif. - Occidental scored two second half goals to break a 1-1 tie at halftime and defeat Pomona-Pitzer's men's soccer team Monday at home.
Pomona-Pitzer now stands at 6-6-2 on the season, and 6-4-1 in SCIAC, while SCIAC-leading Occidental improves to 10-1-3 overall and 7-1-3 in SCIAC.
The game started off well for the Saghens in the first minute as Peter Rentzepis (pictured) knocked in a deflection off an Aidan Ferrer shot to put Pomona-Pitzer up, 1-0. But Occidental's Grayson Burdon answered in the 23rd minute to tie, and the remainder of the first half was fast-paced and evenly-matched. Coming out of the halftime break, Occidental capitalized off of a cross in the 51st minute resulting in a Morgan Bennet-Smith score for the Tigers. A mere three minutes later, Occidental's Elijah Remy connected on a penalty kick for the final margin.
Occidental outshot Pomona-Pitzer, 18-14, with Sagehen goalie Ben Mitchell recording 1 save.
Pomona-Pitzer hosts Redlands Saturday at 11:00am at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Stadium.
