CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team suffered their first loss of the season against Pacific Lutheran by the score of 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
The Sagehens were led by sophomore Aidan Ferrer who tallied one goal and one assist in the loss.
Pacific Lutheran was led by Eddie Na who scored two goals and had one assist in the win for the Lutes.
Pacific Lutheran responded with its first goal of the day as Clint Absher snuck a ball past the Sagehen goal keeper to even the score at 1-1.
The Lutes took the lead late in the first half as Colten Halfaker came off of the bench and scored a goal in the 38th minute off of a pass from Absher to give Pacific Lutheran a 2-1 lead going into halftime.
An early penalty in the box by the Lutes goal keeper set up Ferrer to cash in on a penalty kick goal in the 50th minute to tie the match at 2-2. The Sagehens then took the lead just five minutes later as Ferrer cross in a ball that found the foot of freshman Daven Crossland to take a 3-2 lead.
After giving up the lead, the Lutes came out and responded as Na scored his first goal of the game after a turnover in the Sagehens' back line set up an easy opportunity for Pacific Lutheran to tie the game at 3-3 in the 58th minute.
Just under a minute later, the Lutes took the lead as Pomona-Pitzer goal keeper Ben Mitchell mistimed a challenged and surrendered a penalty kick that was cashed in by Na to give Pacific Lutheran the lead back at 4-3.
Pacific Lutheran tacked on one more in the 85th minute as Bennett Bugbee scored a breakaway goal set up by Na to seal the game for the Lutes.
The Sagehens will next open up SCIAC play as they travel to conference rival Claremont Mudd Scripps on Monday, September 5th at 7:00 p.m.
