Men's Soccer: Sagehens End Season With SCIAC Semifinals Loss At Redlands

CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team fell to No. 20 Redlands 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Semifinals at Farquhar Field.

With the loss, the Sagehens have been eliminated from the SCIAC Postseason and end the year with an 8-8-2 overall record and 7-5-2 in SCIAC play.

The Sagehens came out and stuck right with the No. 20 Bulldogs in the first half as the defense stayed solid against everything Redlands threw at it. The Bulldogs fired off six shots and had four corners in the first half but could not sneak a goal past the Sagehens in the first 45 minutes of play.

The big chance for Pomona-Pitzer came in the first half after Aidan Ferrer was led past the back line on a lob pass over the defense but just missed the shot high as both teams stayed tied at 0-0 at the half.

With the match tied at 0-0 in the second half, the Bulldogs became more aggressive on offense to try to find a goal and play from in front. The opening goal of the game came in the 56th minute for the Bulldogs as Chase Boone got into the box and placed one into the bottom left corner to break the deadlock and give Redlands the 1-0 lead.

The scoring came in bunches for the Bulldogs as they tacked on two more goals with Anthony Chonga scoring in the 67th minute and Colin Chubb Fertal found the back of the net just 40 seconds later to give Redlands a 3-0 advantage over the Sagehens early in the second half.

Pomona-Pitzer put together a fight to end the game as they threatened the Redlands' defense with multiple scoring opportunities inside the box but Redlands stayed strong and used their early second half surge to fend off the Sagehens at home and advance to SCIAC Finals.
