THOUSAND OAKS, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer Team almost stole a road victory against the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen on Wednesday evening, but could not get the desired result as they fell 3-1. The Sagehens found the opening goal thanks to Bjorn Sigurdsson in the first half, but the Kingsmen responded with three in the second half to seal the victory.
Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 3-5 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC.
The Sagehens looked to get an early lead in the 1st minute when Aidan Ferrer saw his shot saved by Kingsmen keeper Antonio Welsh. Later in the 11th minute, Daven Crossland tried to connect on a cross but his header sailed straight to the keeper's gloves.
It was not until the 44th minute when the Sagehens caught a break. Crossland delivered a pass to Sigurdsson who then converted a quick shot to take a 1-0 lead.
The Kingsmen's offense picked up in the second half when Jared Pishke scored the equalizer for Cal Lutheran in the 58th minute. Three minutes later, they took the lead when Igor Lumbrano scored off a penalty. The Kingsmen capped their offensive display in the 64th minute when Alex Cortez went for a header off a corner kick and scored off his own rebound. The Sagehens looked to bounce back as Matthew Carlson saw an open attempt saved in the 76th minute. Later in the 77th minute, Sigurdsson tried for the brace, but his attempt too was caught. Pomona-Pitzer tried to generate more opportunities, but struggled to capitalize before the final whistle.
