CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team ended with a 2-2 draw against non-conference opponent Whitworth on Saturday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens move to 1-3-1 overall.
Pomona-Pitzer got on the board first early in the first half as first-year Dylan McCuskey played a low cross into the box that Stein hit first time into the side of the goal to give the Sagehens a 1-0 lead.
The Pirates evened the score in the 24th minute after a cross into the box found the foot of a sliding player for Whitworth to pull level at 1-1. Pomona-Pitzer went on to reclaim the lead late in the first half after Guillen-Lopez found the back of the net in the 45th minute as the Sagehens went into the locker room with a 2-1 lead.
Whitworth found its equalizer in the second half at the 51st minute mark to bring the score even at 2-2, but the Sagehens had a chance for a potential game-winning goal after being awarded a penalty in the box in the 61st minute of the match. The Sagehens went on to miss the penalty after a nice save by the Pirates' keeper as the score remained tied at 2-2.
Neither team could end the game in regulation as the two teams headed into overtime with the 2-2 tie. Both teams had chances in the overtime periods to score goals but the Sagehens ended up going down a man in the 102nd minute after the Pirates were denied a potential goal scoring opportunity.
After being down to 10 men, the Sagehens were able to hold off the Pirates in overtime and came away with the draw at home.
