CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Soccer team ended their 2019 regular season with a 0-0 draw against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Cal Lutheran on Monday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
Season Impact: With the draw, the Sagehens end the year at 3-10-5 overall and 2-6-4 in SCIAC play.
The Sagehens outshot the Kingsmen 17-10 throughout the game with nine shots on goal and took nine corners opposed to Cal Lutheran's six. The Sagehens controlled possession in the first half and had a few good chances to get on the board but couldn't find the back of the net as they went into halftime tied at 0-0.
Sophomore Jonathan Rushton got the start in goal and recorded a shutout for the Sagehens in the draw with a total of nine saves. Rushton denied a few very good chances for Cal Lutheran to take the lead including a diving save off of a corner chance in the second half and also denied a three on one chance for the Kingsmen in overtime that he sent over the bar to preserve the tie.
The Sagehens end the regular season with conference wins over Chapman and Occidental as well as draws with Whittier, Cal Lutheran and Caltech.
