Claremont, Calif. - Senior Max Scholten (Boulder, Colo. - pictured) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.84 in a SCIAC meet at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday.

Scholten, who is a returning All-American for the Sagehens, was the only individual winner for Pomona-Pitzer on the day, as CMS won the team competition by a final of 229-67. The Sagehens start out the SCIAC season 1-1, after edging Whittier 125-112 in its first meet of the season on Monday.

In addition to his win in the backstroke, Scholten also came in second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.32. He did not race in the 200-yard backstroke, one of his top events.

Junior Tommy DePaoli (Danbury, Conn.) also had a strong race for the Sagehens in the 100-yard butterfly, coming in a close second with a time of 53.45.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next weekend when it competes in the Finis College Invitational in South Gate, California, before a long break for exams and the holiday season.
