Pomona-Pitzer Cruises To Win In Regular Season Finale

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team finished off its 2012 regular season with a convincing 130-80 road win over Occidental on Saturday.

With the win, the Sagehens improve to 6-2 in dual meets (5-2 against SCIAC competition), heading into the SCIAC championships on Feb. 19-21.

Pomona-Pitzer took control early, capturing the medley relay behind Max Scholten (back), Hugh Berryman (breast), Chris Wright (fly), and Andrew Savage (free). The Sagehens then finished 1-2-3 in the 1650-yard freestyle, with J.P. Cumming touching the wall first, followed by Brian Wysolmerski and Kevin Byrne.

Joe LaBriola and Vincent Giannotti came in 1-2 in the 200-meter freestyle, and Scholten took first in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.13, giving the Sagehens a huge 66-36 lead at the midway point of the meet.

Wright (pictured) added a win in the 200-yard butterfly, Berryman took first in the 100-yard free and LaBriola led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200-yard backstroke.

After the SCIAC Championships next week, Scholten will continue on to the NCAA Division III Championships in Indianapolis, where he will compete in the backstroke and possibly in the individual medley. Other Sagehens will get the chance to qualify for Indianapolis at the SCIAC's.
