Sagehens Fall To Division II Cal Baptist In First Dual

Riverside, Calif. - Sophomore Hugh Berryman (pictured) won the 100-yard freestyle and was runner-up by just one-tenth of a second in the 50, but Cal Baptist captured a 205-56 win in a dual meet on Saturday.

Berryman won the 100 with a time of 48.65, finishing a half-second ahead of the second-place finisher. His 21.84 in the 50 was just behind Cal Baptist's Michael Perry, who had a 21.74. 

Senior Tommy DePaoli was third in both butterfly events, finishing with a 54.46 in the 100-yard and a 2:02.64 in the 200-yard

Freshman Ferrel Atkins (100-yard breaststroke) and Devon Kennedy (500-yard freestyle) also had third-place finishes. Atkins ended with a time of 1:03.59 in his event, while Kennedy came in under five minutes in the 500 free (4:59.21), followed closely by fellow freshman Andy Wright in fourth (4:59.51).

Cal Baptist was second in the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference (PCSC) last season, finishing only behind UC San Diego, which was ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division II.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action in two weeks when it opens up SCIAC competition at home against Chapman on Dec. 1.
