To Makes Strong Debut To Highlight Malibu Invitational

Malibu, Calif. - Freshman Daniel To won the 50 back and the 200 back at his first collegiate event to highlight several impressive performances from Pomona-Pitzer newcomers at the 2013 Malibu Invitational, hosted by Pepperdine on Saturday.

To broke the two-minute mark in the 200 back, earning a first-place finish with a time of 1:58.82, and later added the 50-yard title to his resume as well.

Schools from all three divisions (and NAIA) participated in the season-opening meet and the Sagehens saw a lot of new faces impress. On the men's side, Kyle Dalyrmple led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50-yard breaststroke (followed by returnees Ferrel Atkins and Nathan Yale), while Jason Lammert led a 1-2-3 finish in the 50-yard butterfly (followed by returnees Will Thorson and John Verticchio). Danny Villars also came in second in the 200 fly.

On the women's side (which featured a deeper pool of participating teams), Cayla Nishizaki opened her career by leading a 2-3-4 finish in the 100 free, followed by returners Alex Lincoln and Vicky Gyorffy. Nishizaki was also sixth in the 200 free, with fellow freshman Kay Sterner coming in tenth. Maki Tohmon earned top 10 finishes in the 100 back (fourth), 50 butterfly (eighth), and 200 breast (sixth). Maddie Larkin was fifth in the 50 back and sixth in the 100 back.

Pomona-Pitzer returns to action next weekend at the Whittier Relays.
