Redlands, Calif. - Freshman Danny Villars finished eighth out of 113 competitors at the Redlands Penathlon on Saturday afternoon.
Villars finished with an aggregate time of 4:41.30 in the five events (100 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 100 fly and 100 IM), including a 48.81 in the free and a 55.81 in the individual medley to rank among the top competitors (representing all of the SCIAC and Biola of the NAIA). Jeff DePew (4:29.91) and Daniel Ortyn (4:35.69) finished 1-2 for the host Bulldogs.
Sophomore Ferrel Atkins (pictured) finished 16th overall with a time of 4:47.32, including a 1:01.38 in his top event (100 breast) in which he holds the Pomona-Pitzer record. Atkins also broke the 1:00 mark in the backstroke (59:09).
Freshman Daniel To continued to thrive in his top event in his young career, coming in third in the 100 back with a time of 53:13, finishing third overall. He also broke 50 seconds in the free (49.20) and came in 21st overall. Sophomore Hugo Ho was 24th and freshman Tanner Byer was 33rd as he came in just under the 5:00 mark with his aggregate score (4:59.56).
Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next weekend for its first home meet as it entertains Cal Baptist at 11 a.m. in a swim-only meet, while the Sagehen divers will travel to compete at Redlands.
