Freshmen Lead Sagehens Past Cal Lutheran 198-97

Claremont, Calif. - Pomona-Pitzer freshmen won all but one of the swimming events as the Sagehens rolled to a 198-97 win over Cal Lutheran in its first SCIAC meet of the 2013-14 season at Haldeman Pool.

Among the individual highlights was freshman Daniel To (pictured), who swept his top event by winning both the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke (53.99 and 2:02.96, respectively) and then also added a win in the 100-yard butterfly (53.21), pacing a 1-2-3 finish with sophomore Will Thorson and freshman Jason Lammert.

The Sagehens also saw a positive impact with the addition of several men's water polo players, who were competing in their first winter meet. Freshman Timmy Hardman won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.75 and the 100-yard freestyle in 48.74, while freshman Tommy Turner swept the distance events, earning a 10:17.12 in the 1000 and a 5:02.17 in the 500.

Freshman Kyle Dalrymple, meanwhile, cruised to wins in both breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 1:00.13 and then taking the 200 in 2:14.38. The Sagehens added a 1-2-3 in the 200 butterfly, with freshman Danny Villars, Thorson and freshman Kevin Ward taking the top three spots.

Villars added a win in the 200 individual medley, as Pomona-Pitzer freshmen accounted for all 11 individual wins (out of 12 events).  The Sagehens also swept both relays (400-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle).

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next weekend for the Commerce Invitational before a three-week break for the holidays.
