To Wins 100 Back To Highlight Commerce Invitational

Commerce, Calif. - Freshman Daniel To (pictured) finished in first place in the 100-yard backstroke to highlight the Men's Swimming and Diving's team performance at the Commerce Invitational this weekend.

To finished in first place with a 51.70 in the 100-yard backstroke, winning by .61 over second place Jeff Depew of Redlands and moving into third place in Pomona-Pitzer history in the event. The two SCIAC competitors were then followed by eight NAIA swimmers in the top 10, six from Concordia (Irvine), one from Biola and one from Fresno Pacific.

In addition to his strong performance in the backstroke, To also finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.31.

Freshman Tommy Turner broke the 5:00 mark in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 4:59.70 to come in seventh (first among Division III competitors). Freshman Timmy Hardman was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle with a 21.79, while Andy Wright was fourth in the 1650 (17:06.27).

As a team, Pomona-Pitzer finished in fourth at the weekend event with 1054 points, despite not competiting with its full roster, due to final exams this week.
