Sagehens Sweep Tri-Meet, Push Win Streak To 10

Whittier, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team defeated both Whittier (197-93) and La Verne (185-101) on Saturday in a SCIAC tri-meet held at Whitter to stretch its winning streak to 10 straight.

The Sagehens are now 10-1 overall on the year since falling in its first meet of the season to Division II Cal Baptist, and are 7-0 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer has also defeated Fresno Pacific, Biola and Wheaton (Mass.) in non-league meets.

Freshman Daniel To (pictured) swept the two backstroke events for the Sagehens, winning the 100 in 54.21 and the 200 in 2:00.04 to lead the way.

Pomona-Pitzer also swept the distance events, as freshman Tommy Turner won a close race in the 1650 in 17:10.26, defeating Kurt Holzmuller of Whittier by just over one second (17:11.61). The 500-yard freestyle saw sophomore Austin Abrams, Turner and sophomore Devon Kennedy finish 1-2-3, all in under 5 minutes with Abrams touching the wall first in 4:58.24.

Sophomore Will Thorson and freshman James Lammert had a close 1-2 finish in the 100-yard butterfly with Thorson winning by six-hundredths of a second (54.31 to 54.37). Freshman Kyle Dalrymple added an individual win in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.05.

Pomona-Pitzer closes out the regular season at home next weekend when it hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a battle of SCIAC unbeatens.
