Sagehens Fall In Tight Meet To Cal Baptist

Riverside, Calif. - The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team gave Division II Cal Baptist a tough battle, but fell 154-134 on Saturday afternoon.

The opening relay (200 yard medley) showed how tight the meet would be as Cal Baptist won by just .37, as the team of Daniel To (backstroke), Kyle Dalrymple (breaststroke), Danny Villars (butterfly) and Hugh Berryman (freestyle) swam a 1:35.25 for the Sagehens.

To finished in first place in the 100-yard back (52.56), as the Sagehens had the top five finishers. Freshmen Mark Rusnak and Alexander Landau were second and third in 55.94 and 56.94, respectively. Dalrymple broke a minute in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.60) to finish second in that event.

Berryman and Andrew Savage came in 1-2 in the 50-yard freestyle, with Berryman finishing first in 21.76 and Savage second in 22.07. Savage then led a 1-4 Sagehen sweep in the 100 free, followed by Villars, Berryman and Chris Garnatz

Samuel To (pictured) earned two first-place finishes, winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:57.06) and the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:10.65. The final relay was even closer than the first one, with the 400-yard freestyle relay going to Cal Baptist by just 12 hundredths of a second over the Sagehen team of Savage, Eirik Hansen, Garnatz and Berryman.

Pomona-Pitzer will next be in action for its first SCIAC dual of the season at Whittier on Saturday, Dec. 6.
