Pomona-Pitzer Sweeps Caltech, La Verne In SCIAC Tri-Meet

Claremont, Calif. - The No. 23 ranked Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team defeated La Verne 186.5-100.5 and Caltech 211-79 in a SCIAC tri-meet on Saturday morning at Haldeman Pool.

With the wins, the Sagehens are now 3-2 in dual meets this year, including a perfect 3-0 in SCIAC meets. The team's losses have been close defeats to Division II Cal Baptist and No. 11 Stevens Institute.

Pomona-Pitzer opened with a four-second win in the 400-yard medley relay, with Hugh Berryman (back), Ferrel Atkins (breast), Danny Villars (fly) and Daniel To (free) clocking in at 3:37.26. Junior Austin Abrams (pictured) then followed with a win in the 1000, Villars came in first in the 200 free, and Samuel To won the 100 back to give the Sagehens first-place finishes in the first four events. 

Freshman Spencer Satz won the 200-yard butterfly by two seconds over classmate Jack Denvir, while Kevin Ward came in third. The 50 free also had a 1-2-3 finish with Daniel To and Mark Hallman finishing .02 apart with To winning 22.03 to 22.05, followed by senior Eirik Hansen in third.

Berryman cruised to a win in the 100 free by over a second, while the Sagehens added a 1-2-3 finish in the 500 with sophomore Tommy Turner coming in under five minutes (4:58.39) to win it with teammates Andy Wright and Mark Rusnak behind him. 

Villars added another individual win in the 100 fly, while Hallman took first in the 200 IM, breaking the 2:00 mark (1:59.64). The Sagehens capped off the meet with a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle relay. 

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Monday for a training meet in Puerto Rico against Tufts before returning to SCIAC action on Saturday at Haldeman Pool against Chapman.
