Men's Swimming and Diving: Sagehens Move Into 1st After 2nd Day of Collegiate Winter Invite

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The Sagehens won both relay events and the No. 16 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team surged into first place after the second day of the Collegiate Winter Invite Saturday evening.

After two days of competition the Sagehens lead with 630 points. Division II Concordia is in second place with 485 points. Host La Verne sits in third place (359) and Occidental College is in fourth (294).

Whittier College (293), Biola University (294), and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (33) round out the standings.

The Sagehens opened day two of the invite with a win the 200 yard medley relay. Daniel To, Teddy Koerner, Samuel To, and Danny Villars finished with a time of 1:33.77.

Liam O'Shea took second in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:13.82. Erik Garcia finished in third, coming in at 4:15.15.

In the 100 yard butterfly, Samuel To placed second (50.48) and Villars followed behind with a third place finish (51.26).

Koerner and Daniel To each won individual races for the Sagehens. Koerner won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 57.62 and To won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 51.40.

In the 800 yard freestyle relay, Jack Swanson, Samuel To, Villars, and Will Abele won with a time of 7:04.21.

The Sagehens entered the day with 254 points, trailing Concordia who led after the first day of competition with 258 points. 

The Sagehens are back in the pool tomorrow at 10 a.m. for prelims and come back at 5 p.m. for evening finals.
