Men's Swimming and Diving: Sagehens Win 400 Freestyle Relay, Team Finishes SCIAC Championships in Second

COMMERCE, CA — The Sagehens won the 400 yard freestyle relay, and the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Swimming and Diving team finished in second place overall at the 2017 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

400 Freestyle Relay

The highlight of the night for the Sagehens was in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The Sagehens won the event with one of the top-10 fastest times this year in NCAA Division III. Adrian HuiDanny Villars, Samuel To, and Mark Hallman finished with a time of 3:03.00.

Cal Lutheran finished in second with a time of 3:03.50, and CMS took the third spot at 3:04.22.

200 Breaststroke

Teddy Koerner finished on the podium for the Sagehens in the 200 yard breaststroke, taking third place with a NCAA B-Cut time of 2:04.51.

Tom Gallup from Caltech won the event with a time of 2:02.11, and Henry Limm from CMS finished in second with a time of 2:04.15.

200 Butterfly

Will Abele and Samuel To each made NCAA B-Cut times in the 200 yard butterfly. Abele finished in fourth with a time of 1:52.55 and To finished right behind in fifth with a time of 1:52.56.

John Everett from CMS won the event with a time of 1:50.49, Occidental's Austin Lashley came in second with a time of 1:51.65, and Aaron Lutzker from CMS took third at 1:51.71.

1650 Freestyle

Zach Senator finished in fourth place in the 1650 yard freestyle, coming in with a time of 16:11.16, the fastest time in the event this season for the Sagehens. Liam O'Shea finished right behind in fifth place with a time of 16:11.20.

Benjamin Brewer from Cal Lutheran won the event (15:28.26), Ben Culberson from took second (15.33.89), and Jonah Hobbs from Cal Lutheran finished in third place (16:03.22). 

200 Backstroke

Erik Garcia finished the 200 yard backstroke in fourth place with a time of 1:51.61, the fastest mark for Pomona-Pitzer this season.

Matthew Williams from CMS won the event with a time of 1:48.04, Joe Widuch finished in second place at 1:50.40, and Sam Willett from CMS placed third at 1:51.25.

100 Freestyle

Mark Hallman was the top Sagehen finisher in the 100 yard freestyle, coming in fourth place with a time of 45.86 for the fastest finish for Pomona-Pitzer this season.

Graham Spurzem from CMS won the race (45.45), Tim Polman from La Verne took second (45.79), and Zach Zamecki from Cal Lutheran placed third (45.83). 

1 Meter Dive

Michael Schuur was the top finisher for Pomona-Pitzer in the one-meter dive. The sophomore finished in fifth place with a score of 353.45.
