Men's Tennis: Schoenherr Wins Three-Set Thriller In Sixth Street Rivalry

CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 14 Pomona-Pitzer Men's Tennis Team took a tough loss against the No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags on Wednesday night, falling 8-1. The Sagehens' sole point came at the courtesy of Jacob Schoenherr, who won his no. 5 singles match against Nic Meister in three sets (3-6, 6-4, 12-10).

Season Impact: The Sagehens are now 10-13 overall and 5-2 in the SCIAC.

The Stags took control of the doubles round from the early get-go. In no. 2 doubles, Oscar Burney and Jack Katzman won against Avery Bicks and Charlie Stark 8-3. Octave Bellet Di Giacomoni and Joshua Gearou fell to Julian Gordy and Nikolai Parodi 8-5 in no. 1 doubles. Jed Kronenberg and Nils Skattum took a close loss to Robert Liu and Jake Williams in no. 3 doubles, falling 8-7 (10-5 in the tiebreaker).

In the singles round, Kronenberg fell in no. 1 to Parodi 6-4 and 6-2, while Joshua Gearou took a 6-2 and 6-1 loss in no. 2 to Jack Katzman. In no. 3, Bellet fell to Gordy 6-1 and 7-5 and Sam Gearou fell 6-2 and 6-1 to Liu. Quinn Hirsohn dropped in no. 6 to Burney with a pair 6-2 losses, but Schoenherr salvaged one point for the Sagehens in his three-set comeback victory.
