Sagehens Dominate 1500 At SCIAC Meet

Claremont, Calif. - Pomona-Pitzer finished 1-2-3 in the 1500 meters as it split two dual results on Saturday at Strehle Track, defeating Whittier 110-48 and falling to La Verne 108-54.

Occidental and Chapman were also competing at the event, but the Sagehens only scored against Whittier and La Verne.

Sophomore Pryor Stroud (pictured) came in first place in the 1500 in 4:06.70, with John Fowler second in 4:07.61 and Paul Picciano third with a 4:11.82. Pomona-Pitzer was also 1-2-4 in the 5000 meters with Ben Girodias first in 15:36.04, Alex Johnson second in 15:42.17 and David Erf fourth in 16:09.10.

Alex Chong and Matthew Sloane finished 3-4 in the 100 meters with times of 11.33 and 11.38. Sloane also came in third in the 200 meters with a 22.24, while Greg Hook was third in the 400 meters with a 48.89.

The 800 meters saw the Sagehens finish 2-3 as Dom Reinhold was second with a 1:59.61, followed closely by Michael Cork in 2:00.48. Corey Purcella was third in the steeplechase with a 10:05.19 and Matt Owen had a 12-07.25 to come in second in the pole vault.

Garret Bell was also second in the hammer throw at 129-11 and third in the shot put at 40-01.5, Chris Garnatz was third in the discus at 124-09 and Peter Ianelli was third in the javelin at 153-01.
