Fowler Moves Into Division III Top 10 In 5000 Meters

Claremont, Calif. - Freshman John Fowler (pictured) ran a 14:54.93 in the 5000 meters at the CA/NV Championships to move into the top 10 this season among Division III runners.

Fowler finished in 13th place among 39 competitors at the event, which includes participants from all three divisions, and moves him into tenth place in Sagehens history. His time is good enough for eighth place nationally, pending results from other meets around the country.

Also adding to the highlights in the distance events was Ben Girodias, who finished in 31:07.31 in the 10000 meters, good for seventh in Pomona-Pitzer history, and 14th this year in Division III. He came in fifth at the event out of 22.

Greg Hook also had a highlight for the Sagehens by breaking the 50-second mark in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 49.97, followed closely by Matt Sloane in 50.17. Bennett Kopperud ran a 57.67 in the 400 meter hurdles, while Andrew Kolczynski had a personal best of 60.99.

The second day of the CA/NV Championships will be held tomorrow at UC San Diego.
