Distance Runners Highlight SCIAC Meet For Sagehens

Los Angeles, Calif. - Ben Girodias and Alex Johnson finished 1-2 in the 5000 meters at the third SCIAC Quad Meet of the 2013 season, hosted by Occidental.

Girodias won the event, which featured five SCIAC programs (Occidental, Chapman, Redlands and Cal Lutheran were also competing) with a 15:29.77, while Johnson was close behind with a 15:36.30. Steven Ory also came in fourth and David Erf sixth to give the Sagehens four of the top six finishers.

In the dual scores, Pomona-Pitzer defeated Occidental 93-64 and edged Cal Lutheran 82-77, while falling to Redlands 114-48.

Greg Hook broke 50 seconds in the 400 for the second week in a row, coming in second place with a 49.81. Pryor Stroud and John Fowler were second and third in the 1500 with a 4:01.69 and a 4:03.15, respectively. Titus Van Hook had a strong showing in the sprints, coming in second in the 200 meters with a 22.34 and third in the 100 with an 11.07.

Joe Knight (pictured) was second in the high jump with a personal best of 6-4.75 (1.95 meters). Bennett Kopperud was third in the triple jump with a 39-3.25, while Garrett Bell was third in the hammer with a 133-foot throw.
