Bell, Distance Runners Highlight SCIAC Track And Field Championships For Sagehen Men

Los Angeles, Calif. - Junior Garret Bell set a personal best for the second day in a row, and the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field team placed three in the top seven of the 5000 meters at the SCIAC Championships on Saturday at Occidental.

Bell highlighted the field events with an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw, setting a personal best with a 131-7. Yesterday, he set a personal best in the shot put with a 42-9, finishing seventh, breaking his old mark by 2.5 feet.

In the 5000, senior Alex Johnson finished with a 14:55.01 to place third overall, and was followed closely by freshman John Fowler in fifth with a 14:57.50 and sophomore Ben Girodias in seventh with a 14:59.75, as all three Sagehens came in under 15 minutes.

Sophomore Matt Sloane finished in fifth place in the 200 meters with a 22.42, junior Greg Hook was sixth in the 400 meters with a 48.86, senior Dom Reinhold was seventh in the 800 meters at 1:56.96, and sophomore Pryor Stroud was fifth in the 1500 with a 4:01.33. Freshman Bennett Kopperud was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a 57.36. 

Pomona-Pitzer finished seventh overall at the SCIACs, while CMS captured the team title.
