Distance Runners Highlight Opening Meet

Claremont, Calif. - Paul Messana (pictured) finished second in the 1000 meters and Ben Girodias was fourth in the 3000 meters as the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field team opened its season at its annual All Comers Meet at Strehle Track.

Messana ran a 2:30.35 and was behind only unattached runner Isaiah Thompson, who ran a 2:29.16. Messana edged out unattached runner Aaron Potts for third by .13, while junior Pryor Stroud was close behind in fourth in 2:30.69.

Girodias ran the 3000 in a time of 8:45.84, fourth overall and second among collegiate runners as the top two finishers were unattached.

Alex Chong was sixth in the long jump for the Sagehens with a jump of 20 feet, 6.5 inches, while Dalton Bolger was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 142 feet.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next weekend at the Rossi Relays, hosted by CMS.
