Girodias, Van Hook Have Big Performances At Oxy Festival

Los Angeles, Calif. - Ben Girodias (pictured) finished 11th of 143 runners in the 5000 meters at the Occidental Distance Carnival and Sprints Festival late Friday evening, while Titus Van Hook broke 11 seconds again (10.93) in the 100 to finish third and move into fifth place all-time in Pomona-Pitzer history.

Girodias ran a personal best time of 14:44.26 to move into seventh place on the Sagehens all-time list in the event.  He was sixth among collegiate competitors and first among Division III participants, which included runners from various collegiate divisions and running clubs.

Van Hook, meanwhile, trimmed .04 off his 100 meter time from last weekend's SCIAC Mutli-Dual to move up from a tie for seventh in Sagehen annals into fifth. He trailed only unattached runner Joey Hughes and Brandon Sanford of Long Beach City College, finishing .15 ahead of the closest Division III runner (Kyle Dalton of Occidental).

Greg Hook also earned a top-five finish in the 400 meters (out of 25) with a 49.69, while Ali Halakoui was eighth in 51.16. Paul Messana was 13th in the 1500 (out of 101), coming in under 4:00 with a 3:59.20. Corey Purcella was ninth in the steeplechase (out of 44) at 9:41.02.

The Sagehens will be back in action in two weeks for another SCIAC Multi-Dual meet at Occidental.
