Girodias, Messana Earn Top Tens At CA/NV Championships

San Diego, Calif. - Ben Girodias finished fourth in the 10000 meters and Paul Messana came in eighth in the 800 after winning his preliminary heat at the 2014 California/Nevada Championships, hosted by UC San Diego.

The Sagehens also earned a point in the 4x100 relay as Alex Chong, Titus Van Hook, Matt Sloane and Greg Hook combined for a 42.94, coming in ninth at a meet which featured competitors of all NCAA divisions.

Girodias ran a 31.19.79 in the 10000 on Friday to come in fourth place overall, behind Division I runners from UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton, and a Division II runner from UC San Diego.

Messana, meanwhile, won his heat in the 800 on Friday with a 1:54.53 to automatically qualify for the finals on Saturday. He then trimmed a little more time off his run in the finals, running a 1:54.34 to come in eighth overall. Five of the runners in front of him were from Division I schools, as well as one from Division II UC San Diego and one from NAIA Azusa Pacific.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational at Strehle Track.
