Fowler Second In 3000 At Rossi Relays

Claremont, Calif. - Junior John Fowler finished second overall out of 67 competitors at the CMS Rossi Relays on Saturday in the 3000 meters.

Fowler finished the race with an inpressive time of 8:37.39, trailing only Andrew Tellames of NAIA's CSU San Marcos by less than a second. He also finished ahead of a runner from USC (Bryan Jordan) in third place by just over a second as the three had a tight battle down the homestretch.

Fowler was the only Sagehen to compete in the 3000 and one of the few Pomona-Pitzer athletes to compete in the event as all, as the team mostly took a break from last weekend's host All-Comers Invitational and before next weekend's SCIAC quad meet at La Verne.

Fowler did not run the 3000 at the All-Comers last weekend, as Ben Girodias finished second in the event at that competition. Two weeks ago, the Sagehens ran the 3000 against Occidental unopposed, as the Tigers distance runners were competing at the Indoor Nationals.
