Garnatz Reaches 190 Feet In Javelin

Azusa, Calif. - Senior Chris Garnatz (pictured, photo by Joe Bergman) added five more feet to his personal best by throwing the javelin over 190 feet at the Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific on Friday evening.

Garnatz moved up to fifth all-time in Pomona-Pitzer history with his throw of 190 feet, five inches, which placed him ninth at the Bryan Clay Invitational, a major event with competitors from all divisions. Garnatz was ninth out of 46 competitors and threw 17 feet further than any Division III person in the field.

In his final two seasons, Garnatz has added 30 feet to his javelin throw, after reaching 160 in the SCIAC Championships as both a freshman and sophomore. He will be one of the contenders for the SCIAC title this year, after earning all-conference honors last spring.

The Sagehens will next be in action at the SCIAC Championships on May 1-2, which will be hosted by Whittier.
