Girodias, Garnatz Earn All-SCIAC As Seniors

Los Angeles – Seniors Chris Garnatz (second in the javelin) and Ben Girodias (third in the 10,000) earned All-SCIAC accolades to highlight the Men's Track and Field team's performance at the 2015 SCIAC Championships on Friday and Saturday at Occidental.

Garnatz earned a second-place finish in the javelin on Friday with a throw of 187 feet, five inches to become the highest Sagehen finisher at the SCIACs. He also added a seventh-place finish in the discus on Saturday, while freshman Calvin Aylward was fourth in the javelin.

Girodias (pictured, photo by Joe Bergman) was third in the 10000 meters with a 31:51.64 on Friday and added a sixth-place finish in the 5000 meters on Saturday to finish second on the team. Junior John Fowler earned All-SCIAC honors by coming in third in the 5000 with a 15:04.19, while freshman James Kinney scored as well by finishing seventh.

Sophomore Parker Head also earned All-SCIAC honors with a third-place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a 9:32.50.  Freshman Brandon Hull nearly earned All-SCIAC accolades in the pole vault, but earned fourth place with a vault of 13 feet, 5 3/4 inches, while freshman Quinn Cassidy came in sixth.

Sophomore Paul Messana was fifth in the 800 meters, an event he won last year on his way to earning All-America honors. Sophomore Isaac Solomon was sixth in the triple jump and freshman Reggie Reed was seventh in the shot put to also earn the Sagehens points.

The Sagehens will be back in action next weekend at the Occidental Invitational as Fowler, Girodias, Garnatz, Messana and others will try to earn qualifying marks for the NCAA Division III Championships later this month.
