Fowler Moves Closer To NCAA Invitation

Claremont, Calif. - Junior John Fowler (pictured, photo by Joe Bergman) moved up to No. 13 nationally in the 5000 with a personal best 14:27.62 at the Occidental Invitational late Saturday evening.

The top 20 runners receive invitations to the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships later this month in Canton, N.Y. (hosted by St. Lawrence). With very few events left to be run, Fowler is in excellent position to earn his first national qualification in track and field (he has gone to cross country nationals three times in his first three years).

His 14:27.62 also marked the first sub-14:30 time at Pomona-Pitzer since Will Leer, currently a top runner for USA Track and Field, finished in 14:23.28 back in 2007.

Fowler still has the option of competing in the Redlands Last Chance Invitational this week to try to improve his time.
