POINT LOMA, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team took fourth at the Point Loma Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Pomona-Pitzer finished in fourth place with 172 points which was just in front of fifth place Middlebury who finished with 164 points.
The Sagehens started off the day with junior Paul Messana taking second place in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:52.09.
Pomona-Pitzer also had a strong showing in the 5,000 Meter Run as Charles Watson finished in third with a time of 14:57.28, freshman Andy Reischling finished in fourth at 15:00.35, senior Corey Purcella took sixth with a time of 15:10.37 and freshman Daniel Hill finished in 10th clocking in at 15:22.32.
The Sagehens once again finished back-to-back in the 110 Meter Hurdles as freshman Christopher Neikirk took fourth with a time of 15:01 and freshman Marcus Polk came in fifth clocking in at 15:03. Polk also took sixth in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 55.44.
Neikirk also went on to place seventh in the High Jump with a jump of 1.93 meters.
The Sagehens ended the day as sophomore Calvin Aylward finished in second place in the Javelin Throw with a distance of 55.48 meters.
"Our guys took advantage of the opportunity to compete against some talented teams outside of our region", said Head Coach Robert Neely. "It's always fun to see how we stack up against other programs at this point in the season. We'll look to build on these performances at our second SCIAC meet next weekend."
The Sagehens next run in the SCIAC Quad Meet hosted by Cal Lutheran but will take place at Stehle Track at Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 10:00 a.m.
