LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team finished in third place in the Southern California intercollegiate athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Occidental College.
The third place finish for the Sagehens was the best program finish since 2006 as the scored 130 points, 101 of which were on day two. The Sagehens landed five SCIAC Champions out of 20 events and eight All-SCIAC athletes.
Pomona-Pitzer claimed first and second in the 110 meter hurdles as freshman Marcus Polk won the SCIAC Championship with a 14.64 and freshman Christopher Neikirk took All-SCIAC honors with a second place finish at 14.92. Neikirk also came in third place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 53.68.
The Sagehens won the 800 meter run as junior Paul Messana won the SCIAC Championship with a time of 1:52.69. Sophomore Nick Vucovich took All-SCIAC honors with a third place finish as he clocked in at 1:54.67.
Senior John Fowler won the 5,000 meter run as he took All-SCIAC honors with a time of 14:38.99. Senior Corey Pucella took fourth place with a time of 14:47.74, freshman Andy Reischling came in fifth at 14:48.53 and junior Charles Watson took sixth at 14:59.12.
The Sagehens ended the day as sophomore Calvin Aylward took first place in the javelin throw with a distance of 191-00 to earn All-SCIAC honors.
"I'm really proud of the way our guys went out and competed", said Head Coach Robert Neely. "They worked their tail ends' off all year and earned every bit of this weekend's success. The future is bright for the Sagehens."
The Sagehens end the year at the SCIAC Championships as a team but will still compete as individuals in the Occidental Invitational on Saturday, May 7th at 3:00 p.m.
