LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer men's track and field team sent a group of individuals over to the Occidental Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Sagehens had multiple different individuals reach milestones at the Occidental Invitational. Highlighting the meet for Pomona-Pitzer was junior Paul Messana who moved into the third spot in the nation in the 800 meter run with his time of 1:49.86.
Sophomore Calvin Aylward solidified his berth to NCAA Nationals in the javelin throw as he moved into seventh in the nation and second all-time in program history with a throw of 204-06 feet.
Senior Corey Purcella moved up to seventh in the nation and fourth all-time in Pomona-Pitzer program history in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with his time of 9:05.29 and junior Parker Head broke into the top-20 national rankings (19th) and 10th all-time with his time of 9:16.52.
"We had some guys on the national qualifying bubble step up today", said Head Coach Robert Neely. "Paul and Cal both had lifetime PR's that moved them into high-ranking spots nationally. Corey and Parker also had PR's in the steeple, showing that our guys are really coming into form at the right time. We are taking a good group of guys to Waverly, and I'm excited to see what we can accomplish at outdoor nationals."
The Sagehens will next make the trip to the NCAA National Championships in Waverly, Iowa on Thursday, May 26th at 9:00 a.m.
