Men's Track and Field: Rosen Newcomer of the Year, No. 14 Sagehens Land 7 All-SCIAC Selections

CLAREMONT, CA — Danny Rosen earned SCIAC Newcomer of the Year honors, and the No. 14 Men's Track and Field team landed seven athletes to the SCIAC All-Conference list the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

Rosen put on a dominating performance in the 3000 meter steeplechase for the Sagehens. The freshman won the event by 21 seconds, leading a Pomona-Pitzer sweep in the event. Rosen's time ranks as the eighth best time in NCAA Division III this season and is the best among freshman. His mark is the eighth best time in program history.

SCIAC Champions Calvin Aylward and Andy Reischling made the All-SCIAC list for Pomona-Pitzer. Aylward scored an overwhelming win in the javelin at the SCIAC Championships, taking first with a throw of 209-09, over thirty feet better than the next closet competitor. Aylward set the Pomona-Pitzer record in the event earlier this year at 211-09, the fifth best mark in the nation this season. 

Reischling earns All-SCIAC honors after winning the 5000 meter at the SCIAC Championships. The sophomore led the event from start to finish winning with a time of 14:51.95. He set the fourth best time in the country earlier this year with a time of 14.15.70. 

Parker Head and Julian DeGroot-Lutzner made this list after completing the Sagehen sweep in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Head took second with a time of 9:34.75, and DeGroot-Lutzner finished third at 9:37.18.

Also taking home All-SCIAC honors for their second place finishes at the SCIAC Championships are Cal Neikirk and Paul Messana. Neikirk finished second with at time of 15.75 in the 110 meter hurdles. Messana took second in the 800 meter with a time of 1:51.53.
