Track & Field: Sagehens Send Six To NCAA National Championship

INDIANAPOLIS, IN. – The NCAA announced the qualified competitors for the 2018 Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on Saturday, May 19. Three members of the Pomona-Pitzer Men's Track and Field program and three members from the women's program qualified for the National Championships and will be competing at the Veteran's Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin from May 24-26.

Andy Reischling, Danny Rosen, and Carter Floyd will be representing the Sagehens in the men's competition. Reischling will be racing at the NCAA for the second season in a row, competing in the 5000-meter run. He currently holds the SCIAC record time of 14:07.91 this season. He will also be competing in the 10000-meter after posting the second-fastest time in the nation at 29:51.75.

Rosen will also be returning to the NCAA for the 3000-meter Steeplechase after setting the fifth-fastest time in program history at 9:05.48.

Freshman Carter Floyd will look to impress in his NCAA debut after posting a 1:50.81 at the Redlands Last Chance Meet in the 800-meter run. His time is third all-time in the Sagehens' record book.

"The NCAA Championships is the pinnacle our season, so to have three athletes qualify in four different events to represent the Sagehens is a great accomplishment," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "As a team we are in a great spot, not only do we have representation across four events, but our athletes rank in the top 6 of each of those events as well. Our collective goal is to bring home some All-American awards and hopefully combine for a top 20 team finish as well.  I am excited to see our group go up against the other top athletes from across the country."

Helen Guo, Vicky-Marie Addo-Ashong, and Jessica Finn will be representing the Sagehens in the women's competition at the NCAA.

Guo will be competing in the 5000-meter run at the NCAA. She posted her best time at the Bryan Clay Invitational at 16:30.20.

Addo-Ashong will enter the Triple Jump competition after setting the program record in the SCIAC Championship at 38-09.75 (11.72m).

Jessica Finn will be making her second trip to the NCAA in her collegiate career, competing in the Javelin again. The senior will be coming in with a season-best throw of 137-01 (41.79m).

"We're so pleased and excited that Jessica, Vicky-Marie and Helen have qualified to Nationals," said Head Coach Kirk Reynolds. "They all worked so hard during the season to get to this point. They are each terrific athletes, and deserve to be at the National Champs. What a fantastic achievement. This will be the first time at Nationals for Vicky-Marie and Helen, but Jessica went last year, and can provide some insight to the other two about what to expect. You know, it's Nationals, but it's also just another chance to put on your Sagehen jersey and do what you've been doing all spring. I'm eager to see them compete. It's going to be awesome!"
