CLAREMONT, CA. – The No. 10 ranked Pomona-Pitzer Men's Cross Country team looks to get out to a hot start for 2017 as they will be competing in the PP-Oxy-La Verne Triangular Meet on Friday, September 1st beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The men and women both enter 2017 with a new face at the helm of the program as previous assistant coach Jordan Carpenter takes over the men's program in 2017 while previous assistant coach Emma DeLira takes over the title of Interim Head Coach while Head Coach Kirk Reynolds is on leave for the fall 2017 season.
The men's team comes into this season as the No. 10 ranked team in the nation as well ranked No. 1 in the West Region after ending last season with a 17th place finish at the NCAA National Championships meet. The Sagehens have been on the rise in the last few years and reached their highest ranking in program history at No. 6 just before the midway point last season.
The team returns four key seniors in Nick Vucovich, James Kinney, Gabe Elliott and Nick Beatty who will look to keep the Sagehens at the top of the SCIAC to end their collegiate careers. The Sagehens also return seven juniors including Andy Reischling, Julian DeGroot-Lutzner and Colin Mulligan, all of which finished inside the top-20 at last year's SCIAC meet. The trio also earned the distinction of All-Region as the three helped the Sagehens to a third place finish as Reischling took third, DeGroot-Lutzner took 19th and Mulligan finished in 28th.
Pomona-Pitzer has four sophomores returning for this season and will need to see contributions from Nicholas Borowsky, Kellen Browning, Daniel Rosen and Nathan Stringham in their second collegiate seasons. The Sagehens also bring in a big freshman class with 11 incoming first-year runners that will look to add depth to a strong cross country team this season.
The Sagehens open the season at home in the PP-Oxy-La Verne Triangular Meet and will be at home for the annual Pomona-Pitzer Invitation on October 14th and will also be the site for the NCAA Division III West Regional on November 11th.
