CLAREMONT, CA. – The Pomona-Pitzer Men's Cross-Country Team released its 2018 season schedule, competing in eight meets before the NCAA Regionals and Championships in November.
"I am really excited about the competitiveness of our schedule this season," said Head Coach Jordan Carpenter. "We will be traveling to numerous meets during the season that will allow us to see some top programs from California and the country as a whole."
This year, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) eliminated the dual-meet format, settling the conference title at the SCIAC Championship.
The Sagehens will kick off the season by hosting a tri-meet against Occidental College and University of La Verne at Strehle Track on Saturday, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. That same day, several members of the team will compete at the Mark Covert Classic in Brea at 9:00 a.m.
On Saturday, September 8, the Sagehens will race at the Biola Invitational in La Mirada at 8:30 a.m. and the following week will face off against Division I and II programs at the UC Riverside Invitational at 8:00 a.m.
The Hens will take a two-week break before competing again at the Sacramento Cross Country Challenge on September 29.
"With the cancelation of the SCIAC multi-dual meet, we had the ability to add in another large competitive meet," said Coach Carpenter. "Instead of the small SCIAC meet we will be heading to the Stanford Invitational, which will give us another opportunity to run on a national championship style course. I think this is a positive step forward for the conference and our program as it allows us to put more of a focus on preparing for the championship portion of our season."
Pomona-Pitzer will host its second event of the season with the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday, October 6 at 7:45 a.m.
The team received the honor of competing against the top Division III programs in the nation at the Pre-Nationals in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 13 at 11:00 a.m.
"One meet circled on our calendar during our regular season is the pre-nationals invite in Oshkosh, Wisconsin," said Coach Carpenter. "This will be our first opportunity to compete against some of the top programs in division III. I think we are going to have a great team this fall and it will be fun to see how we stack up to these other top programs."
The Hens will take a two-week break before competing again for the SCIAC title in the SCIAC Championship on Saturday, October 27 at 9:00 a.m.
