Sagehens Drop Twinbill At Redlands To Start SCIAC Season

Claremont, Calif. - Nikoli Sharp was 6-for-6 with six RBI in the doubleheader as the Redlands Softball team cruised to a sweep of the Sagehens in the SCIAC openers for both teams.

Redlands won 13-0 in the first game and 9-1 in the second, both shortened to five innings, as the Bulldogs improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer slips to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the league.

Sharp was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in the opener, and 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBI in the nightcap.

Pomona-Pitzer kept the second game close for a little while, tying the score 1-1 in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly from freshman right fielder Susanne Boden (Atlanta, Ga.), scoring older sister Lauren Boden (Atlanta, Ga.), who doubled.

However, Sharp capped off a four-run fourth inning with a two-run homer, and then added a two-run single in the fifth inning to make the score 8-1. The final run then came home on a wild pitch to enforce the run rule.

Pomona-Pitzer managed just three hits in each game, with Lauren Boden providing the only extra-base hit. Boden was 6-for-11 on the weekend overall, including her 5-for-6 effort against Lewis & Clark yesterday.

The Sagehens will be back in action at home next Saturday for a noon doubleheader with Whittier.
