Seventh Inning Rally Helps Sagehens Split

La Verne, Calif. - Lauren Boden, Susanne Boden and Caitlyn Hynes had RBIs in a three-run seventh inning as the Pomona-Pitzer Softball team earned a split at La Verne on Friday.

La Verne took the opening game 9-1 in five innings, as they move to 8-14 overall and 4-8 in the SCIAC. The Sagehens move to 5-20 overall and 2-12 in league play.

Ashley Morello (pictured) had a key role in the seventh inning, starting the three-run rally with a Leadoff single and then crashing into the outfield fence in deep center to make the catch for the final out of the game.

Pomona-Pitzer had a 4-2 lead in the nightcap before La Verne tied it with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman pitcher Eden Griffen then got a key strikeout to leave runners on second and third and prevent the Leopards from taking the lead.

In the seventh, Morello and Aryana Yee started off with singles to set the table. Lauren Boden then brought home Morello with a grounder that was thrown away for an error. Susanne Boden the played Yee with a single and Hynes followed with another RBI single to make it 7-4. Griffen then retired the side in order to finish off the win, with Quinn Sheehy making a solid defensive play at shortstop for the second out and Morello ending it with a running catch in deep center.

Pomona-Pitzer will be back in action tomorrow for a home doubleheader against Cal Lutheran, beginning at 12 noon.
