Softball Drops Pair To George Fox

Claremont, Calif. - The George Fox Softball team rallied from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, after taking the opening game 7-1.

With the losses, the Sagehens fall to 3-6 on the year, while George Fox improves to 3-1 after splitting with Chapman in its season-opening twinbill on Friday.

Freshman Sam Carlson (pictured) hit her second home run of the season in the first inning of the nightcap to put the Sagehens ahead 3-0. However, Kayla Anderson, who was 4-for-4 in the second game and had four RBI in the opener, had a two-run single in the fourth that deflected off of pitcher Emily Rockhill and wrong-footed shortstop Aryana Yee.

George Fox then took the lead in the top of the sixth as Amanda Woods hit a two-run double to make the score 5-3. The Sagehens got runners on in the sixth and seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but came up short 5-3. Senior Ashley Morello was 2-for-4 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Woods hit a solo homer in the second and Anderson hit a two-run homer in the third to make the score 3-0. The Sagehens got one back when Rockhill's RBI single scored Yee, but Anderson added a two-run double in the fifth to make the score 5-1 and Abbie Bergerson was able to get the win, allowing six hits and one run over five innings.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action next weekend for two more home doubleheaders, taking on Willamette on Friday and Cal Lutheran on Saturday.
