Sagehens Drop Two To Cal Lutheran

Claremont, Calif. The Pomona-Pitzer Softball team dropped a pair of SCIAC games on Saturday afternoon to league rival Cal Lutheran, falling 6-0 in the opener and then falling victim to a seventh-inning rally from the Regals in the nightcap in a 7-6 defeat.

With the losses, the Sagehens fall to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the SCIAC. Cal Lutheran improves to 4-9 overall and 4-3 in league play.

Pomona-Pitzer led 6-5 after four innings when junior third baseman Paige Oliver broke a 5-5 tie with an RBI single. The score held until the seventh, when Cal Lutheran tied it on a one-out RBI double from Liz Mertel, and then pinch runner Ryanna Morua slid around the tag at the plate with the winning run, just eluding a throw from first baseman Sam Carlson.

Susanne Boden (pictured) had two doubles in the nightcap for the Sagehens, going 3-for-5 with a run scored. Senior outfielder Ashley Morello was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Oliver finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action next weekend for a road doubleheader at La Verne.
