Redlands Pitching Quiets Sagehens In Sweep

Redlands, Calif. - The Redlands Softball team allowed just two combined runs on nine hits in the doubleheader as it took a 6-1, 3-1 sweep from Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday afternoon. 

With the losses, the Sagehens fall to 12-16 overall and 7-9 in the SCIAC. Redlands improves to 15-17 overall and 9-11 in league play with the wins. 

Junior right fielder Susanne Boden (pictured) hit a solo home run in the first game, but Lauren Henson allowed only four hits overall in the complete game victory (Boden had two of them, while senior Ashley Morello and junior Paige Oliver had the others.  Addie Oeleis had the game's big hit with a three-run double in the second to make the score 5-0.  

In the nightcap, Morello had an RBI single in the second to tie the score 1-1 off of Courtney Ludlow, after Natalie Ireland and Quinn Sheehy also singled around a Leah Bleichner walk to load the bases. Redlands was able to throw out Bleichner at the plate to keep the score 1-1, which is where it stayed until the fifth when a wild pitch broke the tie.

Haley Farr added an RBI double in the sixth to make the score 3-1, which is how it ended. Sophomore pitcher Eden Griffen allowed only two earned runs in the complete game, but took the loss. Henson threw the final three innings in relief to get her second win of the day.

Pomona-Pitzer is back in action on Friday when it travels to Cal Lutheran for a 2 p.m. doubleheader before returning home to face La Verne on Saturday at 12 p.m.
