CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team fell in their season opener against Pacific by the score of 8-4 on Friday afternoon at Pomona-Pitzer Stadium.
The Sagehens were led by freshman Liz Rodarte who went 1-3 at the plate, drove in two runners and scored one run of her own.
Pacific was led by Ashley Mitchell who went 2-4 with three RBI's and a run scored.
Cassie Apple got her first win of the season for the Boxers as she went four innings and surrendered two runs on two hits and recorded one strikeout.
Junior Bianca Cockrell fell to 0-1 on the year for the Sagehens as she went 1.2 innings pitched and gave up five runs on seven hits.
Pacific jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first after an RBI single by Mitchell but really did their damage in the top of the second as the Boxers strung together three doubles and a home run in the inning to take a 7-0 lead.
The Sagehens got two of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning after a wild pitch and an RBI by junior Sofia Baig cut the Pacific lead down to 7-2.
Pomona-Pitzer added one more run in the fifth after Rodarte was hit by a pitch. Rodarte singled home another Sagehen in the seventh but ultimately the Sagehens fell to the Boxers for their first loss of the season.
The Sagehens take the field again on Saturday, February 13th for a double header against Lewis & Clark beginning at 12:00 p.m.
