CLAREMONT, Calif. -- The Pomona-Pitzer softball team fell in both games of the double header to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday afternoon.
The Sagehen offense lacked in their games against CMS as Pomona-Pitzer struggled to score runs against the Athenas.
The Athenas got off to a fast start as they tallied four runs in their first at bats with a three-run blast by Abigal Mets and an RBI single by Briana Halle to take a 4-0 lead over Pomona-Pitzer in the fourth.
CMS tacked on one more in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single to give the Athenas a 5-0 lead over the Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer's bats went quiet as the Sagehens were shut out in game one against CMS.
The Athenas jumped ahead again in the bottom of the first in game two as Carly Rolede tripled to right center to give CMS a 1-0 lead.
CMS scored three more with one swing as Tara Robinson hit an inside the park homer to right center to extend the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Athenas got three more in the bottom of the fifth off of an RBI double that brought home two runners and an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0 going into the sixth.
Pomona-Pitzer only strung together five hits against the Athenas' defense in game two as they fell in both games of the double header.
The Sagehens next take the field as they host SCIAC opponent Chapman on Friday, March 11th at 1:00 p.m.
