DEMOREST, GA – The Pomona-Pitzer softball team lost both games of their double header to Piedmont by the scores of 3-1 and 7-2 on Thursday afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.
Freshman Liz Rodarte started game one for the Sagehens as she went six innings and only gave up three runs on three hits in the loss.
Sarah Walker started the game on the mound for Piedmont and went all seven innings and gave up just one run on six hits to pick up her eighth win of the year.
Piedmont struck first in game one as Allyson Gentry brought home Haley McCurry on an RBI bunt to take a 1-0 lead over Pomona-Pitzer in the bottom of the third.
The Lions reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Josie Coker brought home two runners on a bunt single to give Piedmont a 3-1 lead.
Walker held off the Sagehen offense in the seventh and Pomona-Pitzer dropped the first game of the double header.
Piedmont jumped ahead early in the second game of the double header as they scored three runs on a three run homer by Coker to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
The Sagehens got one back in the top of the second as sophomore Emily Rockhill drove in Buchanan on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to 3-1.
The Lions took over the game in the bottom of the second as they scored four runs on five hits and one error by the Sagehen defense extended the lead to 7-1 going into the third.
Pomona-Pitzer scored one more in the top of the fifth as Rodarte brought home Baig on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead down to 7-2 but Piedmont held off the Sagehens to take both games of the double header.
The Sagehens will next return home as they host Willamette on Tuesday, March 22nd at 4:30 p.m.
